Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ab Initio Nuclear Many-Body Theory

INFN Section of Milan Milan , Italy

Published Thu, 10/22/2026 - 2:24 PM Expiration Thu, 11/12/2026 - 12:00 AM or until the posting is filled

The research opportunity
The INFN Section of Milan invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in theoretical nuclear physics. The project will develop advanced ab initio nuclear many-body approaches to charge-exchange response and double-beta decay, with links to nuclear spectroscopy and electroweak processes.

A central direction is to combine Algebraic Diagrammatic Construction (ADC) methods with particle-vibration effects, beyond mean-field descriptions. The programme connects microscopic theory to ongoing INFN activities in nuclear spectroscopy and neutrino physics and aims toward new approaches to neutrinoless double-beta decay matrix elements.

The fellow will join the Milan nuclear theory group and will be encouraged to contribute to its broader activities, establish collaborations, publish research results, and develop independent scientific interests.

Who should apply?
We welcome strong early-career researchers with expertise in nuclear theory, many-body methods, ab initio calculations, or closely related areas. Applicants finishing their PhD may apply, subject to the degree requirements in the official call.

Important eligibility conditions
The call has specific international eligibility rules: non-Italian applicants must hold a PhD from a foreign institution; Italian applicants must hold a position abroad and have been continuously abroad for at least three years. Restrictions also apply to earlier INFN appointments and time since the PhD. Please consult the official call for complete conditions.

Application and informal inquiries
Submit applications through https://reclutamento.dsi.infn.it/ by 12 November 2026, 23:59 CET. Applicants should select Position 9 — Milano and provide the materials requested in the call, including a CV, publication list, and contact details for three referees. Referees may upload letters until 15 November 2026.

This is an informal summary. Please refer to the official INFN announcement at:
