Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Experimental Nuclear Physics

Central Michigan University Mount Pleasant, MI , USA

Published Fri, 11/06/2026 - 12:38 PM Expiration Tue, 11/10/2026 - 12:00 AM or until the posting is filled

The Nuclear Physics and Fundamental Symmetries group at Central Michigan University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in experimental nuclear physics. The group performs research in low-energy nuclear physics to address questions in nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure and reactions, and in fundamental symmetries. It leads research programs at US and international particle accelerator laboratories, with a strong emphasis on experiments at the nearby Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). Activities carried out locally at CMU include the development and characterization of radiation detectors and precision mass measurements with the CHIP-TRAP Penning trap.

The selected candidate will be focused on the program of precision mass measurements at FRIB led by Profs. Alfredo Estrade and Matthew Redshaw. They include time-of-flight mass measurements with the S800 spectrometer, and Penning trap measurements with the LEBIT facility. As a postdoctoral researcher you will be expected to take a leading role in planning and running experiments at FRIB. You can also be involved in projects to develop nuclear physics instrumentation, such as ion beam tracking detectors and instrumentation for ion traps.

Review of candidates will begin on November 10th and will continue until the position is filled, with a possible start date as soon as November 2026. Apply to the position through the following link: https://www.jobs.cmich.edu/postings/45566

Please direct questions about the position to Dr. Alfredo Estrade, estra1a@cmich.edu or Dr. Matthew Redshaw, redsh1m@cmich.edu
