Data Acquisition Specialist
The GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world's largest research projects, is under construction through international cooperation. The FRS/SFRS Experiment department of GSI is one of the major partners for nuclear physics experiments and application of radioactive beams. It performs experiments and developments at the cutting edge of modern nuclear science. The department enables experiments with exotic nuclei at the fragment separator FRS and conducts an original research program at the borderline of nuclear, hadron and atomic physics; the department prepares for novel experiments at the next-generation super-conducting fragment separator Super-FRS of the international accelerator facility FAIR.

Data Acquisition Specialist (all genders)

to be filled as soon as possible to support the experiment program at GSI and FAIR.
The main tasks include:
- Support in setting up and implementing the Data Acquisition (DAQ) and slow-control systems of the Super-FRS Experiment Collaboration at GSI/FAIR
- Link to and cooperation with the general NUSTAR-DAQ group, integration of detectors and equipment of the Super-FRS Experiment Collaboration at GSI/FAIR
- Operation, maintenance and upgrade of the existing FRS Data Acquisition (DAQ) system for experiments and support of the various experiment groups
- Representation of the Super-FRS Experiment Collaboration within NUSTAR and GSI/FAIR on matters related to DAQ and/or slow control systems.
Your Profile:
- A M.Sc. degree or Diploma in physics, electronics, information technology or a related discipline
- Several years of professional work experience in nuclear physics
- Proven expertise and experience in DAQ development and/or operation, preferably with MBS and in comparable scientific environments
- Proven ability to integrate into an experiment team, excellent organizational and communication skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English (German desirable)
- Ability to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary research team in a scientific environment.

The salary and benefits are based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund) effective at GSI.
