Postdoctoral Research Position in Experimental Nuclear/AMO Physics
MIT Department of Physics

Start date: As soon as a suitable candidate is identified.

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to play a leading role in developing and applying experimental techniques for the study of rare atoms and molecules. The successful candidate will conduct experiments both in our on-campus laboratories at MIT and at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB, USA). The researcher is expected to spearhead projects involving exotic atoms and molecules and contribute significantly to several experimental programs planned at these facilities. The position also includes participation in experimental campaigns and the analysis of resulting data.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct independent research safely, efficiently, and professionally. Ensure that all experiments meet MIT’s safety and quality standards and follow established operating procedures. Lead and contribute to experiments involving rare isotopes, exotic atoms, and molecules. Provide training, mentorship, and support to undergraduate and graduate students. Engage actively in collaborations with U.S. and European institutions. Travel to and participate in extended experimental campaigns at FRIB.

Qualifications:

PhD in AMO physics, nuclear physics, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience in experimental AMO and/or nuclear physics. Strong record of research achievement and the ability to work effectively in large, collaborative projects.
Supervision Received The postdoctoral researcher will receive broad guidance from the faculty principal investigator at MIT. Weekly or biweekly meetings will be held to review progress, in addition to an annual development review. Continued scientific interaction and collaboration after the fellowship period will be strongly encouraged.

Supervision Exercised:

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to supervise, train, and support technicians, undergraduate students, and graduate students involved in the research program.

Salary Range: $71,000 to $90,000 NOTE: LNS pays postdocs a specific set rate based on years of experience.
